This Song Has No Title, by Elton John
Very interesting…
I always have background music in my dreams. It can change several times in a night, but often remains the same.
Time if nothing else will do its worst, so do me a favor and tell me the good news first… That’s what’s in my head this morning.
I love Elton. I saw him in concert 2 years ago, it was in a word amazing.
I don’t usually wake up with a song in my head, however, my husband does. They usually are annoying songs though, nothing like this one.
Elton has always been one of those I don’t like to admit to liking, but I do, particularly the old stuff. He struck me as having sold out, and once he did that he didn’t seem to put as much into what he did. I was never a big fan of the popular stuff he did, but I lilked some of the more obscure things. On Goodbye Yellow Brick Road there are some very popular things (the title track, Bennie and the Jets, Harmony), but the real gems from that album are the ones that never made it to the radio play lists – like This Song Has No Title, I’ve Seen That Movie too and The Ballad of Danny Bailey.
I have never seen him in concert, however for awhile I was listening to a performance album he recorded in Sydney and thought it was one of the most powerful live albums I have ever heard.
I like the very old stuff Elton did (early to mid ’70s) and I also like some of the new things he’s done for Disney movies. I know Kathy (Craig’s sister) really likes Elton John.
Where do these songs come from? I’m still trying to figure out why the song in my head the other day was “Look for those bare necessities, those simple bare necessities, forget about your worries and your strife… ” That seems to have come from completely out of the blue.
Popcorn Popping on the Apricot Tree was the song in my dreams this morning.
